She did not want anyone to think they were true so she punished her and tortured her to make sure she retracted her statements and that she apologized. Madame Marissa wanted to chase away her tenant. She knew that her lease had not expired so she could not use it to end her stay. She, instead, chose to be cruel to her in order to have her go.
